Awhile back there was starving little white dog at the gate. It took some time to talk him into the truck. Poor thing had an infection on one botched ear cut and the other was healing but still oozing colors. We got to my house with his head in my lap. I’m looking down at a triangular shaped head. His front is all muscle and he walks like a sumo dog. Thank God they had left his tail full length. So I am not worried about Buddy but do need to figure what breed my adopted pup adheres to or X one of 100s of boxes. He’s put on some weight and is about 60 lbs of laughing dog. Stick is a game he knows. I throw a 4’ x 5” stick for him. He grabs it, looks at me, laughs and drags the stick another 20’ away. Then picks it up and prances around with a small log catching now and then. My helper and I are laughing too hard to stand up. As I’m sitting down Buddy runs to me and drops the log in my lap. He wasn’t too keen on swimming.
One weekend I was on weed eradication patrol and needed Buddy to stay at Moms in town. There is a big dog run but he got lonely and barked. It is behind the house built in late 80s before permits were required or some similar dodgy rationale. I was living in NJ and we had a couple of single family projects going out there. Sunday evening I stop to pickup Buddy and he is gone. How is he gone? Why was he out of the run? He was barking…yeah dogs do that. He is used to waiting till I’m asleep and climbing up on top of the bed. Wrapping himself in most of the blankets and falling asleep with his head giving a leg cramps. So I put an ad in the Mercury News and get a call. Youngish sounding lady with accent that is normal around here. She is curious about how generous the reward for the dog is. I told her it is 100 if Buddy is back by 5pm. And then how much she asked. I don’t know if the evening shift of PD would appreciate you asking them about a reward. Following morning she calls to tell me the dog is with her inlaws in Sacramento and the dog is not playing with the kids. I was EXTREMELY noisy for 5 or 6 minutes finishing with, poor Buddy should take a leg off the kids. Next I got some cats.
